We are originally from Boston, MA. Since 1988 we have lived in Michigan, Texas and Connecticut. We moved to Florida in 1997, hoping to make it our last move for a while! Bernie has been practicing law for ten years. I was a nurse for ten years before I decided to go to law school and have been practicing law since 1997. We both currently work for the Social Security Administration and practice Social Security Disability law. Our favorite hobby is walking and hiking with the dogs. Bernie is a sports buff - football, baseball, basketball . . . I also like aerobics, lounging around the beach and rollerblading (sometimes the dogs come, but only after they've learned to stay out of my way!). We have been a member of TBASSC since 1998. We decided to only join one dog club, because our free time is limited. We bought our first sheltie, Dallas, in 1996 from Kay and Herbert Searle, owners of a small kennel called Valdawn's Shelties in Waterford, Connecticut. Dallas has taught us more than we will ever teach him. Lesson #1 - Never get a dog that is smarter than you are on your first go around. By ten weeks, Dallas had us wrapped around his little paw (it took us six months to figure it out!). Now that we have wised up to him, things are a little more under control (sort of). Dallas is a feisty, mischievous kind of guy and takes his job as watcher of the pack very seriously. His favorite game is playing ball. We got our second sheltie in 1998 from Bill & Irene Munsey. He is also a sable male and we named him Austin. Austin and Dallas became instant playmates and have been best buddies ever since. Austin is a sweet, lovable guy and always wants to be by your side. His favorite game is chasing after a tennis ball and getting Dallas to chase him around the house. We currently do obedience and agility with our dogs. Other activities we like to do with our dogs include hiking and going to the pet beach on Honeymoon Island. What we like best about shelties is that they are smart, energetic and full of personality. They are great little watchdogs, yet are generally good with people and kids. They're also a nice manageable size and easy to tote around. |
